Meet the 'Noisy' Murai
My honourable mother speaking on her palm top is more becok than murai.
Before the proliferation of mobile phones on planet earth, the chattering of a oriental magpie robin may be considered a bit noisy...for a valid reason though.
You see...male magpie robins sing pretty loudly during breeding seasons to impress their mates. Despite the biological excitement driven by an instinct to propagate, Mr Magpie Robin limits his clamorous amorous advertisements to twice a day, namely morning and evening. Most of the time he is a shy and unobtrusive fellow that Wan is happy to hang around with when she watches TV.
Substitute Mr Magpie Robin with Wan's honourable mother and then the palm top signals an incoming call, mom frantically answers it... We have to put mom OUT of the TV room - otherwise we'll have headaches putting up with her voice and the TV simultaneous.
It's unfair to call Mr Magpie Robin becok, which means he talks non-stop like a loudspeaker. Banglapedia commented that the magpie robin also the national bird of Bangladesh, "becomes quiet during non-breeding season". Even if you think they are noisy, I don't think there will that many of them around to bother you. These birds were almost extinct in Singapore about twenty years ago. A city folk like Wan rarely comes across one.
