Comelah, learn some Bahasa Malaysia today

Lah is a small yet prominent word in Bahasa Malaysia of today. Do you want to speak like a Malaysian? Senanglah! ( easy ) Just use LAH as a suffix. That's all? Yalah ( yes ) Do you think that I make this up? Tidaklah ( no )

LAH is one of the first lessons I love to give to my non-Malaysian friends because it's something they can pick up even if they have just arrived in Malaysia - today.

Why use LAH? To emphasize a word. However, you should use LAH at the beginning of a sentence:

Kliklah pautan ini ( Click on this link )

Silalah cuba kursus kilat ini. ( Please try this crash course )

Inilah John( This is John )

That would mean it is incorrect to place LAH at the end of a sentence such as:

Klik pautan inilah

Sila cuba kursus kilat inilah

Ini Johnlah

At least, that's officially.

Colloquially, people are liberal with LAH. After all the Chinese language also uses LAH- without grammatical restriction though. Imagine the confusion of a Malaysian Chinese when dealing with the proper use of LAH.

I don't think you will often find someone ready to pounce on you for putting LAH in the wrong place. Also Pak Lah is also the affectionate way I refer to the Prime Minister of Malaysia...so today I bless the arrival of LAH into your life.
