Kata Kerja

Do You Know What Are They Doing?

Kata Kerja literally action words, are the verbs. Don't you agree that some of them are worth a thousand words in pictures?

I made a set of cards based on kata kerja so that my students can play a game. I lay all the cards on the table and pick a card at random. The kid who calls out the correct answer gets the card. The one who collects the highest number of cards wins the game and gets a little present from me. :) That's why they are always so excited when it's time to play 'card games' the Bahasa Malaysia version.

What you see below with the banana as subject is the original set of cards I made hmm years ago using manila card. There are two with a human child as a subject, these are the additions.

dukungdukung, piggyback ride
DUKUNG-carrying around the waist DUKUNG-you can also carry at the back and give a piggyback

kepit, kelekkepit
KELEK means armpit when it is a noun. When it is a verb, it means to carry under the armpit. Kepit is a synonym of kelekKEPIT is also to hold between two fingers. A cigarette would be the favourite subject for this verb. Being an anti-smoker, I substitute it with a banana, ha ha ha!

jinjingbimbit
JINJING - to carry with hand stretched downBIMBIT - a synonym of jinjing. Telephone bimbit means handphone, but you won't carry it hands down, would you? Really, the choice of this verb baffles me.

junjungkata kerja julang
JUNJUNG is to carry the opposite direction of jinjing, right up on your head. A skill that requires honing.JULANG looks like a cousin of junjung, doesn't it? It is to carry on the shoulder.

tatangpeluk
I group these two together because they are done affectionately. TATANG is to carry on the palms. Bagai menatang minyak penuh means to take care of a child lovingly as if it is precious oil.PELUK or DAKAP , to embrace

pikul,kandar,galaskendong
For this pair of cards, you need a tool to carry out the act. You need a shoulder pole to GALAS, KANDAR or PIKUL.KENDONG-Here you need a piece of cloth to wrap up your stuff to carry.
