Halus Macam Baldu

The Velvety Touch

"Bedak padat dengan kemasan baldu"

"Bedak tabur yang halus dan ringan bak baldu."

That's how compact face powders in advertisements lure potential customers by expounding their velvety qualities. The best way to know velvet is of course, to touch and feel it for yourself. For us rakyat biasa the common place to see velvet is in the form of stage curtains when we watch a performance in an auditorium.

baldu, velvet

The guy above is wearing a scarlet velvet suit. Velvet is made from cotton, silk or nylon. The outer part of the velvet suit is distinctively soft whereas the other side is short cut threads.

Quite a few traditional costumes in Malaysia use velvet as material. Important Malay ceremonies feature a kind of handicraft in which golden thread is embroidered on black velvet known as "seni tekat". Tekat is a luxury associated mainly with royalty.
