Hilang

Hilang akal This is Bahasa Malay version of losing one's mind...yeap that means you have gone nuts.

Penunjuk perasaan yang hilang akal memukul semua wartawan yang berdekatan dengan mereka.
Protestors lost their mind and attacked journalists who are near to them.


Hilang di mata jangan hilang di hati Out of sight not out of mind. Someone is always on your mind even though far apart.

Salam perantauan sering mengingatkan penerimanya hilang di mata jangan hilang di hati.
Greetings conveyed through mass media often remind recipients that they may be out of sight but not out of mind.


Hilang harapan All hope is lost.

Pesakit barah itu meninggal dunia kerana dia hilang harapan untuk sembuh.
The cancer patient died because he has lost all hope to be well again.


Hilang ingatan Same as hilang akal.


Hilang lenyap Vanished without news. My impression from this definition is this should apply to human beings because we expect news from a person, not inanimate objects. On the other hand, hilang lenyap is a double emphasis for being entirely vanished.

Banyak orang hilang lenyap di bawah pemerintahan kuku besi kerajaan Nazi.
Many people vanished without a trace under the Nazi dictatorship.


Hilang semangat This is one peculiar idiom that is not to be taken literally. It doesn't mean dispirited, rather it meant that you got a shock.


Hilang-hilang timbul Now you see it, now you don't.

Hiburan di kapal selain tidur, ada televisyen yang gambarnya hilang-hilang timbul.
Apart from slumber, recreation on the ship includes a television which screen is on and off.
