Animals in Malaysia

An article "Sang" used to honour human beings can also be attached to animals in Malaysia personified in stories such as the familiar "Sang Kancil". May I say, Mr Mousedeer...? The tiger is " Pak Belang" Literally, Uncle Stripe .

Okay, those are stories. In real life, you definitely have to respect the cows, buffaloes and chickens that take their time crossing or even hanging out on the road in rural areas. It's okay if a buffalo accidentally dents your car. If it's vice versa...you have to pay dearly.

Audio 1

The Malaysian media gives it plenty of bad publicity. Listen to the file to identify it.

Audio 2

I believe this animal is very popular here and worldwide. So I am not giving away clues.

Audio 3

It is very easy to express singular and plural for animals in Bahasa Malaysia. You should try to listen for the quantifying key words here.

Animals in Malaysia - audio 4

I think this is a unique aspect of Bahasa Malaysia- Kata Ganda. Many names of animals are doubled. For example, "api" means fire, but when you double it, "api-api" it becomes a firefly!

I hope you know most of the animals mentioned here.

Clues: termite, mud turtle, moth, mosquito larva, jelly-fish, tortoise, butterfly, dragonfly

Baby Animals

In Bahasa Malaysia, the young of a cow is "anak lembu", the young of a goat is " anak kambing"...just add anak. Hmmm the young of a mosquito yes, it is anak nyamuk, but it also has another name, can you remember...? :)
