Bunga dan Dedap July 31, 2007 |
|
Ulang tahun pertama laman www.bahasa-malaysia-simple-fun.com!
First anniversary of www.bahasa-malaysia-simple-fun.com Hurray! Wan started working on this website since July last year despite hopelessly ignorant of web building skills with the help of a guide book. Therefore, let's celebrate it with flowers!
Perempuan, pantang bunga...
Flowers and women--Teenage girls are " kuntum". Soon she blooms into "the flower in the garden" or another way of saying she's "single and available". After marriage, she becomes " the flower that decorates" the hair of her husband. As long as she uses beauty products diligently, she can still remain "the most beautiful flower" in any banquet. Women, better not be associated with...
Flowers called dedap--Previously, beautiful but ill-mannered women who don't seem to know how to run their households properly are called "bunga dedap". Nowadays, it seems this title can also be applied to handsome guys with bad manners. The question is...
Which dedap? You see, the Kamus Dewan listed three types of dedap. Here, Wan includes links to useful websites that displays pictures of them...
1.Dedap batik Erythrina subumbrans
Or, what they call coral tree and december tree
2. Dedap hutan atau anting melayu, kekabu hutan. Erythropsis fulgens.
Mysterious Erythropsis fulgens I am not able to find any information with this "clue" of Dewan Kamus. The only clue that works is its Malay name "kekabu hutan" which according to a guide book of Asian plants has a scientific name Bombax Ceiba. If you are thinking if the "kekabu" or "cotton" can be used to stuff pillows...the answer is yes.
Also:kapok tree or red silk cotton tree
3.Dedap laut atau akar sergang , membaru. Hibiscus tiliaceus.
A dedap that changes color--Hibiscus tiliaceus--This flower has an intial bloom in yellow color which changes into maroon.
It's other name, beach hibiscus
Here, it resembles hibiscus a lot
Conclusion--according to the Malay proverb that likens a person to the dedap flower which is red but without scent, then only the first two dedaps i.e. dedap batik and dedap hutan fit the description due to their bright red colors.
